HIKING

What: Hike in area given on schedule below
When: Monday 7:15 AM check-in leave at 7:30 AM sharp
Where: Clubhouse II
Cost: Due to the high cost of fuel, gas money to be paid to drivers.

Information: Please bring lunch and at least a quart of WATER Wear hiking shoes.

A hat and sunscreen is recommended.  A knapsack or a hiker’s fanny pack is the best ways to carry your belongings.

Those in good physical condition can generally accomplish these hikes.  In this connection, please remember that these hikes are up and down mountain trails andtrail not on level ground.  If you should fall ill or have an accident, the group will do all they can to assist you.  But, if a rescue team has to be called, it could be very expensive for you.

We take turns driving.  You are welcome to join the group and share the beauty of the trails, healthy exercise and good fellowship.

December 27      PUSHAWALLA HIDDEN PALMS

Easy   4.4 miles.  Elevation gain 200 feet.  Hike up to ridge then down to Hidden Palms. Loop back to cars. (Van)

January 3            GROTTOS (CAVE HIKE)

Moderate. 5 miles. Elevation gain 300 feet.  Bring flashlight. (Burt)

January 10         VANDEVENTER, FERN CANYON

Moderate, 5 miles. Elevation gain 800 feet. Fee to enter.  From Indian Canyon Trading post, trail climbs up over hill to Fern Oasis trail.  Return by Fern Canyon, variety of terrain. (Van)

January 17         EISENHOWER PEAK LOOP

Moderate. 6 miles. Elevation gain 700 feet. Fee to enter{ 8:30 AM hike Living Desert opens @ 9 AM}.  View whole Coachella Valley. (Van)

January 24         LYKKEN TRAIL (NORTH)

Moderate. 4 ½ miles. Elevation gain 800 feet.  No shade.  Bring plenty of water.  Incline for first half, Steep rocky decline finishing by Museum.  Options are to go back the same way.  Picnic tables on top, view of downtown Palm Springs. (Burt)

January 31         PAINTED CANYON/LADDER CANYON LOOP

Moderate. 5 miles. Elevation gain 500 feet.  Hike up and down ladders through slot canyons, hike ridge and circle back down. (Jim)

February 7    Keys Ranch

Sign-up early for the Keys Ranch Ranger Guided Walking Tour on Feb. 7th at 10:00 a.m.  It is a one and a half hour tour in Joshua Tree National Park of one of the first successful Homesteads in this area.  This is  extremely easy and is only  half of a mile long. There is a $5 fee per person for the tour, plus the entrance fee to JTNP, unless you have a Nat’l Park Senior Pass that gives you and the people in your car entrance.  We will need drivers to get all 25 of us to the park, space is limited. Please sign up early with Judy Carter, space 519.  There will not be a hike afterward, as previously scheduled  (Burt)

February 14        LITTLE PARADISE

Moderate. 6 ½ miles. Elevation gain 600 feet. Fee to enter.  From Indian Canyon Trading post, trail follows canyon, then up hillside and across to small canyon for lunch stop. (Van)

February 21        JOSHUA TREE—LOST PALMS OASIS TRAIL

Moderate.  7 miles. Elevation gain 600 feet.  Visit Lost Palms Oasis. {Cottonwood Springs ~ No fee to hike} (Jim)
